Spiders and a Princess Kitten

The boys and I walked to the river for our Outdoor Hour in school last week.
The first thing Joe found was a baseball, much to the envy of a little brother.

I found this. Spiders, spiders everywhere.

There were so many, all the same species, we all got a great look at them. Too many for me, if you please.

Her name is Miss Garden Spider, as far as my research takes me. If you know better than I, please let me know.

And then there are the infamous Eastern Spider Monkeys. This species eats more than your average monkey. He also loves to play with real toys and tease and giggle in monkey form.

We also caught a glimpse of the rare Rock Perching Red Head. Known for it's ability to scramble, build and make you smile, we decided to bring this one home.

Joe spotted an empty egg sac of some form.
We also found a bucket of food someone had dumped. I know, I know...a bucket? But it was! Beautiful specimen it was full of maggots. We read about maggots in science this week so it was a wonderful glimpse and discussion on "not" spontaneous generation. At any rate, I didn't feel the need to take any photos. You're welcome.

When we got home Princess Kitty-Nika was ready for her lunch. She is doing quite well. I wish I had a scale to weigh her on, but I'm certain she is growing and trust she's thriving at the rate she chases little boy feet with her sharp claws & teeth. Then she gets sent to her room for awhile so we can have some floor-peace. :)

I THINK I like the kitty more than the spiders. And THANK YOU for not taking pictures of the. . .other. :)
Happy weekend to you!
